How to make a puzzle game with AI

Puzzle games are a great match for AI building because they're mostly about clear rules, not fancy graphics. If you can explain your puzzle to a friend, you can explain it to an AI. Paste a prompt into a tool such as Claude, Cursor, Bolt or ChatGPT and it writes a browser game for you. No coding needed.

The trick is to describe one rule very clearly, then ask for a handful of small levels that each teach something new. Good puzzles come from one idea explored well, not ten ideas at once.

How to do it in 3 steps

  1. Copy the Starter recipe. Use the Copy button below to grab a complete recipe.
  2. Paste it into an AI tool. Paste it into a new chat or project and let it build the first version.
  3. Play every level, then fix the boring ones. If a level is too easy or impossible, tell the AI which one and ask for a better version.

Build a small, playable browser game inspired by "3Sec Patience" (Puzzle).
Concept: 3sec — Hold a button for exactly 3 seconds with no timer, no hints, just your raw sense of time.
Tone/hook (from the game's own page): Hold a button for exactly 3 seconds — no timer, no hints. Can you feel time passing? Free game, works on iPhone & Android. No download, no signup. Play now →.
Tech: use Vanilla JS / Canvas; keep it to a single page that loads instantly with no login or install.
Controls: touch controls (tap/drag) that work on a phone plus keyboard and mouse on desktop, shown on a short how-to-play screen.
Multiplayer: the original is listed as multiplayer. Start with a local or bot opponent, then add online play (e.g. WebSockets) once the core loop is fun.
Core loop: include a visible score, a timer or round clock, progress saved in localStorage.
Steps: 1) get the core mechanic playable with placeholder shapes, 2) add win/lose conditions and restart, 3) polish feel, visuals and sound, 4) add your own twist (setting, character or one new rule).
Make it your own: don't copy the original's name, art, text or code.

Heads up: Starter recipes are learning templates written by Vibe1Up, not the creator's own prompt.

FAQ

How do I make sure every level can be solved?
Ask the AI to include a solution for each level and a hidden button that plays it back. Then you can check each level yourself.
How many levels should I start with?
Five to ten short levels is plenty for a first version. Make the first one almost too easy.
Can the AI make the puzzles for me?
Yes, it can generate levels, but you'll get better results if you play them and ask for changes.
